Active Hope in times of change and crisis: a workshop

  • Gembrook Retreat 215 Beenak East Road Gembrook, VIC, 3783 Australia (map)

Are you taking action for transformative change in how we live and relate to our world? Perhaps you are overwhelmed or exhausted when confronted by the various crises we are facing? This workshop provides spiritual practices to help us support each other in maintaining an active hope.

The workshop is based on the Work That Reconnects, a powerful approach to strengthening our capacity to respond to global issues that allows participants to explore and grow connection - to the earth, ourselves, and each other.

Throughout the day we will use spiritual practices such as nature connection, deep listening and sharing, singing and community building. These practices can help us to feel confident and clear about our participation in the changes that we need to make to address the challenges of our times, give us a grounding to keep going and feel encouraged, as well as providing an experience of being part of a larger collective working together.

The group came away with an amazing sense of shared vulnerability. We were held gently in a place where we could name and face our fears, and also unpack and honour the pain that comes with seeing loss in the world of the things that really matter. I realised I struggle to live out of a real place of hope, and often push unsettling emotions deep down inside. By the end of the session however, our group was together rekindling a vision of what a positive future could be. It was a real blessing.

This retreat day provided me with a really valuable opportunity to rest, reflect and re-centre within peaceful surrounds. The facilitators did an excellent job of creating a safe space for honest vulnerability and restorative creativity. Over the course of the day a room of strangers became precious companions on the healing journey. Highly recommended!!

This workshop is a humble reminder of our relationship to the earth and a powerful framework for showing gratitude, sharing grief and connecting as beings of this earth. An opportunity to reflect on our role as earth-custodians in a time of ecological destruction and social unrest; but also in a time of hope and action. Highly recommend; if not for these reasons, then for the food :)
